Bourbon Iron Works (Slate Furnace)

Bath County · 1791

Jacob Myers blew in a charcoal blast furnace here in 1791 — munitions for the early Commonwealth.

Jacob Myers took land on Slate Creek in 1782 and built Kentucky’s first iron blast furnace here in 1791; John Cockey Owings and partners later operated it. The works supplied settlers and later munitions, including shot for the U.S. Navy and the War of 1812–New Orleans campaigns, with last blast about 1838.
