Capt. Nathaniel Hart
Capt. Nathaniel Hart (1734–1782), a Transylvania Company proprietor and chief negotiator with the Cherokee, came to Boonesborough in 1775 and in 1779 settled White Oak Springs (Hart's Station) about a mile from the fort, joined by Dutch families from Pennsylvania.
The log house tied to his claim is still cited as Madison County's oldest standing house; he was killed nearby in 1782. His daughter Susannah later married Isaac Shelby, Kentucky's first and fifth governor.
