Col. Stephen Trigg of Viney Grove

Virginia-born Stephen Trigg (c. 1744–1782) signed the Fincastle Resolutions, sat on Virginia’s land court that sorted Kentucky claims in 1779–80, then settled Trigg’s Station (Viney Grove / Haggin’s Station) about four miles northeast of Harrodsburg on Cane Run.

As Lincoln County’s militia colonel he helped push the 1780 act that laid out Louisville. On August 19, 1782 he commanded the right wing at Blue Licks and was killed in the ambush; Trigg County (1820) still carries his name, with a marker on the Cadiz courthouse lawn.
