Mount Horeb Earthworks

Above Elkhorn Creek near Lexington, Adena people built a circular ditch-and-embankment enclosure during the Adena period.

WPA digs under William S. Webb in 1939 found a ring of large paired posts that likely screened ceremonies before the earthen walls went up. The University of Kentucky now protects a partially reconstructed site as Adena Park.
