Hardin Village (15Gp22)
On the Ohio floodplain in Greenup County near South Shore, Hardin Village was a late Fort Ancient town occupied from the late 1500s to the mid-1600s and covering more than ten acres.
University of Kentucky digs in 1939 and again in the 2010s mapped large bark-walled houses (about 50–70 by 24–29 feet), storage and trash pits, and family cemeteries with feasting hearths. Triangular endscrapers point to intensive hide work for long-distance exchange—marine shell and brass among the imports—just as the protohistoric Ohio Valley was tipping toward abandonment.
