Henderson at Red Banks
The Ohio River bluff known as Red Banks sat on the Virginia grant later confirmed to Richard Henderson & Company.
On April 6, 1797, Gen. Samuel Hopkins and surveyor Thomas Allin finished laying out the town of Henderson—named for the company founder, who had died in 1785. That plan is still treated as the city's birthday; Henderson County followed in 1798–99.
