Robbins Mounds, Boone County

Two Middle Woodland Adena burial mounds (15Be3 and 15Be14) once crowned an upland ridge near the Ohio.

University of Kentucky crews excavated them in 1939: the larger stood about 20 feet high and 131 feet across, beginning as a 30-foot circular screen around ritual fires before growing through decades of log-and-bark tombs holding at least a hundred people.
